Shopify Discount Sync: Importing Shopify Automatic Discounts and Coupon Codes as Discounts into AvantLink

AvantLink Shopify Discount Sync is seamless integration feature that allows merchants to effortlessly import automatic discounts and coupon codes from Shopify directly into AvantLink. Once imported, discounts can be designated to specific affiliates or affiliate groups and commission rules applied ensuring targeted and effective promotional strategies across platforms.  With Shopify Sync on, any multi-use automatic discounts or coupon codes will be imported into AvantLink going forward. SETTING UP SHOPIFY IMPORT OF AUTOMATIC DISCOUNTS AND COUPON CODES

If you use Shopify as your e-commerce platform (your program must be using the AvantLink Shopify App to use this sync) and would like to import discounts and coupon codes automatically into AvantLink, follow the steps below to get started.

Please Note: Turning ON Shopify automatic syncing will remove any existing manually entered coupon codes or discounts.  Once the sync is on, you will not be able to manually create discounts in AvantLink. 

From your AvantLink dashboard, navigate to Ad Tools > Discounts.

To begin, select Connect in the top box and follow the prompt:

Step 1 - Turn ON Sync:

• In Shopify Sync modal that opens, toggle Turn Shopify Sync On to the ON position
  • If you have more than one Shopify store, choose the one you would like to import discounts from with the Shopify Store Name dropdown menu.
    • Please note: Only one Shopify store can be connected to each AvantLink merchant account.

Step 2 - Choose Sync Settings:

• Next, choose the Default Affiliate Availability for each discount type: Automatic and Multi-Use Coupon Codes
  • This setting applies to newly imported discounts only. 
  • Discounts can be designated to specific affiliates or groups of affiliates after import. 
    These settings can be updated at any time after the initial import.  If updated, they apply to any import going forward. 
• If you would like automatic discounts or multi-use coupon codes to be shown to all of your active affiliates by default on import, choose “Available to all affiliates”. 
• If you would like automatic discounts or multi-use coupon codes to be hidden from all of your active affiliates by default on import, choose “Unavailable to affiliates”.
• A few things to keep in mind: 
  • ONLY multi-use coupon codes will be imported into AvantLink from Shopify.  If a coupon code is designated to expire after one use, it will not be imported. 
  • Specific customer designated coupon codes will not be imported into AvantLink from Shopify.  
  • Coupon codes created by third party apps that already have their own tracking will not be imported into AvantLink from Shopify. 
• Click Save to begin initial import. 

Step 2 - Wait for Initial Sync to Complete:

• While the import is underway, you will see a progress screen.  
  •  Please Note: Import times will vary depending on the volume of discounts on your Shopify account, the initial sync to AvantLink may take anywhere from less than a minute up to 12 hours. 

• Once your discounts are imported, they will populate on your Discounts page. 

Step 3 - Designate Discounts to Affiliates/Affiliate Groups:

• Select the discount you would like to edit and click the edit icon
• Destination URL  
  • Enter the landing page you want to take the customer to when the affiliate discount link is clicked. 
  • This will default to your merchant base URL. 
• Coupon Code Rule Type (optional)
  • Rules can only be applied to discounts that include a coupon code. 
  • Coupon Code Rules can be used to designate how an affiliate can use provided coupon codes and which actions will earn commission.  Coupon Code Rules include the following: 
    • Exclusive Coupon Code Rule: Commission an affiliate on all orders that use a specific coupon code. Intended for influencers, podcasts, and affiliates that are able to drive traffic to your site but do not have a way to use a tracking link.     • Restricted Coupon Code Rule: Prevent affiliates from earning commission when a specific coupon code is used. Order will track, but commission will not be awarded.  Please see our How Merchants Can Use Restricted Coupon Codes article for more detailed information. 
    • Qualified Coupon Code Rule: Commission specific affiliate(s) when both an affiliate click and a coupon code is used on an order. Commission will not be awarded if the coupon code is used by affiliates that are not authorized to use it.  Please see our How Merchants Can Use Qualified Coupon Codes article for more detailed information. 
• Affiliate
  • Designate the Affiliate(s) that can use the discount.  
• Affiliates can be added individually or by Tag Group 
• All Affiliates can be chosen unless you are using an Exclusive or Qualified Coupon Code Rule. 

Be sure to save your changes!

EDIT SHOPIFY SYNC INTEGRATION:

After the initial sync has completed, you can edit your sync integration from the Discounts page.  Please note: any changes to the sync will apply to NEWLY IMPORTED DISCOUNTS ONLY. 

To begin editing, select Edit Integration from the top box, from there you can edit the following:

• Turn OFF Shopify Sync
  • If you would like to stop syncing discounts from Shopify to AvantLink, click the toggle labeled Turn Shopify Sync Off and click Save.
    • Please note: Turning sync off REMOVES all imported Shopify discounts.  Your affiliates will no longer see these in their affiliate accounts.  
• Default Affiliate Availability for each discount type: Automatic and Multi-Use Coupon Codes
  • If you would like automatic discounts or multi-use coupon codes to be shown to all of your active affiliates by default on import, choose “Available to all affiliates”. 
  • If you would like automatic discounts or multi-use coupon codes to be hidden from all of your active affiliates by default on import, choose “Unavailable to affiliates”.

Be sure to save your changes!

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

• Wildcard coupon code rules cannot be used with Shopify Discount Sync. 
• After the initial import from your Shopify account, discounts will automatically update to AvantLink from Shopify each time to edit or add discounts.
• If you decide that you would like to manually add discounts and coupon codes to your AvantLink account instead of automatically importing them from Shopify, you can follow these instructions to turn the sync off (Please note: turning off Shopify Discount Sync will REMOVE all imported discounts from your AvantLink account).
