Google Checkout Integration

Overview

Please contact your AvantLink integration support technician if you need to implement tracking for Google Checkout on your site. Additional assets and instructions may be necessary that are not included in our standard integration email.

The Google Checkout XML API provides the ability for third-party providers (like AvantLink) to use tracking pixels. To utilize this functionality, you must first properly implement one of the integration steps from our primary Tracking Integration documentation.

Depending on which solution you choose for your overall integration, your use of the Google Checkout API will be slightly different.

If you choose to use the AvantLink provided javascript to set and read first party cookies.

        In this scenario, when the tracking pixel is called, AvantLink will check for a valid affiliate cookie on the user’s computer. If found, the information in this cookie will be used to credit the appropriate Affiliate with the sale. If no such cookie is located, the tracking script will ignore the transaction. Under Google’s XML API option, an example of the tracking portion of your Google checkout API request would be:
...
<merchant-checkout-flow-support>
	<parameterized-urls>
		<parameterized-url
		url="https:///ptcfp.php?mi=[MERCHANT_ID]&ad=google">
			<parameters>
				<url-parameter name="on" type="order-id"/>
				<url-parameter name="ot" type="order-subtotal"/>
				<url-parameter name="cst" type="billing-region"/>
				<url-parameter name="ccy" type="billing-country-code"/>
			</parameters>
		</parameterized-url>
	</parameterized-urls>
</merchant-checkout-flow-support>
...
        In this scenario, the only customization you need to perform to the above examples would be to replace:

[MERCHANT_ID] with the provided Merchant ID (Merchant ID) for your affiliate program.

If you choose to set your own server side first party affiliate cookie.

        In this scenario, you have added site-wide logic that looks for and tracks the ‘avad’ URL parameter from AvantLink affiliate click-throughs. Under Google’s XML API option, an example of the tracking portion of your Google checkout API request would be:
...
<merchant-checkout-flow-support>
	<parameterized-urls>
		<parameterized-url
		url="https:///ptcfp.php?mi=[MERCHANT_ID]&ad=[COOKIEDATA]">
			<parameters>
				<url-parameter name="on" type="order-id"/>
				<url-parameter name="ot" type="order-subtotal"/>
				<url-parameter name="cst" type="billing-region"/>
				<url-parameter name="ccy" type="billing-country-code"/>
			</parameters>
		</parameterized-url>
	</parameterized-urls>
</merchant-checkout-flow-support>
...
        In this scenario, you need to replace the following information in the above examples:

[MERCHANT_ID] with the provided Merchant ID (Merchant ID) for your affiliate program.

[COOKIEDATA] with the full affiliate information passed during the click-through that led to this transaction (i.e. the ‘avad’ parameter)

It should be noted that Google Checkout does not currently support the passing of order item detail to third party tracking pixels. This means, among other things, that integration via Google Checkout cannot utilize item-based commissions.
